In the Computational Biology Laboratory, we conduct researches to clarify the mechanisms with which proteins exert their functions, making full use of computers. We use various methodologies in the field of computational biology, including bioinformatics, molecular simulations, and machine learning, in these researches. The researches include analysis of catalytic mechanisms of enzymes using quantum chemical calculations, analysis of protein function mechanisms using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, development and application of coarse-grained MD methods, and protein function prediction using machine learning methods. We also actively conduct collaborative researches with experimental researchers. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in our research or wish to talk about more details about our researches.
The entrance examination is held twice a year in schedules A (summer) and B (winter). In the examination of schedule A, questions are asked in Japanese, whereas in the examination of schedule B, questions are asked in English. You can answer in English in either examination. If you pass the examination, you can choose to enroll in either October or April. For details, please follow this link. Note that we do not accept Graduate International Research Students of the non-regular course.
For master’s course, we accept students who have majored computational biology or structural biology. For doctoral course, we accept students who have achieved sufficient research results in computational biology or structural biology and students who have achieved sufficient research results in experimental molecular biology and can further extend the research using the methodologies of computational biology.
If you wish to enter the Computational Biology Laboratory, please contact Prof. Terada by email by the end of April (schedule A) or by the end of August (schedule B). We will have interviews, in which you are requested to present the research you have conducted and your research plan after you enter the Computational Biology Laboratory. Your research skills are also evaluated.
